Iran’s National Program for controlling non-communicable diseases is one of the worlds leading programs

Obesity can’t be treated only by medical interventions, but also behavioural interventions must be used,” head of Department of Global Health and Policy-making of Tehran University of Medical Sciences mentioned in an interview with IRNA News Agency
Based on the IRNA scientific group, available data which have been published by the Office of Nutrition Improvement of Ministry of Health and Medical Education indicate that currently 60 percent of adults have obesity or excess weight, and in some provinces it reaches to 70 percent.
Dr Amirhossein Takian said that unhealthy lifestyle, poor nutrition and lack of physical activity are the main causes of obesity, and by employing behavioural interventions they can be addressed. Also, early death between 30 to 70 years of old is one of the main problems in our society, which obesity is one of its main causes.
He mentioned the obesity as one of the main risk factors and cause of 30 percent of cancers. “Diabetes, strokes, and cardiovascular diseases are among other adverse effects of obesity,” he explained.
** Undersecretary of Deputy Minister for International Affairs mentioned the implementation of national program for controlling non-communicable diseases and said “in September 2017 Iran’s program for preventing and controlling NCDs was selected as one of the world's leading programs”.
“A report on Iran’s progress in this field will be presented in the General Council of the UN in the presence of member states leaders,” he said.
He also asserted that “Ministry of Health and Medical Education has put the program for preventing NCDs at the top of its agenda and extensive intra-collaboration have been achieved and a series of treaties are signed with 12 other ministries. As well, cardiovascular disease risk factors are now measuring in the country, interventions are defining, and required medicines are providing. In addition, the primary health network is strengthened and nutrition and health experts are now working in the network” Also “some services that are related to NCDs are now available without any charge”.
Head of Department of Global Health and Policy-making of Tehran University of Medical Sciences noted that scientific communications, increase the bilateral relations with pundits, which is useful for society’s health. With considering this scientific communications a series of interventions would be developed based on the best evidences of the world. He also mentioned that our scientific communication with international pundits must be increased.
