A workshop on “Design of Cluster Randomized Trials”
Workshop on designing cluster randomized trials was held in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at TUMS’s School of Public Health (SPH), 30th April 2018. The tutor of the workshop was Professor Lawrence H. Moulton from Department of International Health at John Hopkins University. He is jointly affiliated to the Department of Biostatistics at Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Professor Moulton was welcomed by the Dean of SPH, Professor A. Akbari Sari, the Head of Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Professor S. Nedjat, and a number of her colleagues: Professor M. Hosseini, Professor K. Nouri, Dr. M. Yaseri, Dr. S. Yekani Nejad and Dr. M. Parsaeian, and also the Deputy for International Affairs and Associate Dean, Professor A. H. Takian. Professor F. Modabber, the Senior Advisor, Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), Geneva, Switzerland was the honorary guest of this meeting.

Professor Moulton talked about his experiences in collaboration with different universities all over the world and also on some of their famous cluster randomized trials (e.g. vaccine trials on leishmaniosis, vitamin A, and Hib), technical issues associated with such trials and also the innovative methods for data analysis. Also, potentials for expansion of collaboration between SPH and John Hopkins School of Public Health was discussed.

Iranian and international PhD students of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics enjoyed the in-depth and fruitful discussion in the workshop. Professor Mostafa Hosseini with full support of Professor S. Nedjat and his colleagues put a lot of effort and energy to organize this workshop.
